For blowing Ed Sheeran's Croker announcement this morning...
Mere minutes before Ed Sheeran announced his plans for a big Croke Park show this summer on RTÉ 2fm, The Strawberry Alarm Clock on Dublin's FM104 had pretty much revealed who the headliner was going to be.
The powers that be apparently weren't best pleased with the presenters, one of whom is Jim Jim Nugent, who left 2fm in some acrimony back in 2010. FM104 took to Facebook in the aftermath to post:
"This morning on FM104’s Strawberry Alarm Clock presenters Jim Jim and Nobby broke an embargo concerning the Ed Sheeran concert at Croke Park.
"The embargo was enforced until 8.55am, which the presenters were fully aware of. Due to the edgy nature of the show, Jim Jim and Nobby teased the news prior to the agreed time and left listeners in little doubt as to who was going to be announced. Despite getting a phone call from FM104’s CEO Margaret Nelson confirming the embargo last night, the guys didn’t take it seriously enough.
“After a difference of opinion, programme director Dave Kelly went into the studio at 9am and told the presenters that due to the seriousness of their actions they would be suspended until further notice. The presenters have been asked, however, to facilitate their car giveaway final with Volkswagen Ireland tomorrow morning. Disciplinary action will be taken, but beyond that FM104 cannot confirm details.”
