James Corden remembers George Michael with the first-ever Carpool Karaoke
The now widely-popular segment originated with a sketch from Corden and George Michael.
Last night when James Corden returned to the Late Late Show from his holiday break, he took the time to pay tribute to his late friend, George Michael. As Corden explained, his famous Carpool Karaoke show all started with a sketch they created for Comic Relief in 2011.
“We had come up with this idea to have me and George Michael singing in a car, and it was the first time I had ever sung in a car with anybody. It’s become quite a big part of my life now, and he really inspired it,” Corden told the audience. Apparently, it was all thanks to George Michael that Mariah Carey, who was the guest on the first official Carpool Karaoke, took the job in the first place. “Her words were, ‘if it’s good enough for George, it’s good enough for me,'" Corden quoted.
While performing on the first Carpool Karaoke is no more than a footnote on George Michael's extensive resume, this video of him singing in the car with Corden is sure to bring some smiles to heartbroken fans. Watch the clip along with Corden's stories of George Michael below.
