Paul Heaton announces new album Jenius

Paul Heaton has announced the release of his new album Jenius for August 21.

He also put out the accompanying lead single ‘Favourite Kind Of Idiot’, described by Heaton as “a love story between two people who see the same fallibilities, the same daftness, in each other, and instead of moaning – “God, it's taken you two hours to change that light bulb!” – they see it’s what brings them together. I point out the niceness in not getting things right and not being perfect.”

Marking Heaton’s 23rd album, Jenius was produced by Ian Broudie of Lightning Seeds and recorded at Blueprint Studios in Manchester.

“If anybody ever calls me a genius,” Heaton says of the record’s title, “I always say, ‘What?! With a J?!’ The spelling would obviously be wrong.”

Alongside the new album, the musician will be embarking on a huge UK tour this autumn, with stops in Manchester, London, Leeds, Glasgow and more.
