I'm Waking Up to Us
Superb arrangements and subtly orchestrated strings
Yet another value for money miniature package from B&S which, in typical idiosyncratic release schedule style, won’t be appearing on their fifth album. The lead track features all the hallmarks you’d expect; excellently insightful lyric about a doomed relationship, superb arrangements and subtly orchestrated strings. Problem is, it all sounds a bit of an anti-climax given the Scots’ excellent track record for great one-off singles. The b-sides are much better, especially the brilliant big band pop of ‘I Love My Car’ boasting the killer line “I love my dog / I love my cat / I love the rat that lives under the floor and makes his bed from novellettes.”
