I Died In A Movie E.P.
Not Electric 6’s ‘High Voltage’, but high drama aplenty in this intriguing debut from a similarly named Dublin band. Initially, the angst levels and vertiginous pitch of Ed Cullen’s voice on ‘Brown Bear’ suggest they’re following a trail of guitar splinters left in the wake of JJ72. But not so fast – ‘We’ has a Framesy vibe and ‘Pilot Song’ is an unconvincing bluesy rock out, so it’s an EP designed to showcase a band’s versatility and confound any lazy attempt to pigeonhole them, damn it. They continue with a darkly powerful live outing, ‘Out Of Frustration’, and a ten-minute epic featuring seven odd minutes of sweet instrumental and several more of scary backwards vocals. One of those bands people will either love or hate, I suspect, although I haven’t decided which side I’m on yet.
