Henry McCullough in intensive care
Reports of his passing are inaccurate.
Northern Irish guitar legend Henry McCullough is in intensive care following a heart attack.
His sister has just appeared on BBC Radio Ulster’s Talkback programme to clarify that he’s seriously ill but still alive, despite several media outlets reporting that he had passed away.
A member in the early ‘70s of Paul McCartney’s Wings, he’s also played with such heavy-hitters as Joe Cocker, Roy Harper, Marianne Faithfull, Leon Russell, Ronnie Lane, Pink Floyd and Andrew Lloyd Webber and was the only Irishman on the bill at Woodstock.
The Portstewart man released the well-received Poor Man’s Moon album in 2008 and the same year conducted a masterclass with Fiachna Ó Braonáin at the Hot Press Music Show.
Among those rooting for him are former And So I Watch You From Afar man Tony Wright.
“I had the pleasure of jamming with him when I was 11, in my school uniform and all,” he reminisces. “Absolute hero. A colossus of compassion. Henry McCullough is an utter inspiration to me and any guitar player from my hometown of Portstewart.”
