Gravitas

After their startlingly accomplished debut, Belfast band Desert Hearts up the ante with this incredibly gut-wrenching EP. On ‘Gravitas’ Charlie Mooney and Roisin Stewart’s vocals are wrapped around rigid guitars and thumping, tribal-sounding drums, and the song starts from a rather subdued place and gradually builds into a ghoulish, hysterical frenzy. ‘Hammer And Fogs’, on the other hand is a masterly stab at American lo-fi melodica. Ignore at your peril.
