Former music journalist scores with Green Book
One-time Independent Newspapers rock correspondent Tony O’Brien, now a PR man, has published a book which aims to make environmental issues comprehensible for the lay person.
Going Green: The Irish Guide to Living a Greener Life (Liberties Press) is a user-friendly guide to the key green issues facing us today. It both educates the reader on the issues and offers practical advice on how we as individuals can help the environment.
With references to ‘climate change’, ‘green economy’ and ‘Copenhagen’ increasingly in conversational usage on a daily basis, O’Brien’s timely book balances informing the reader of the issues at hand with hard, practical advice on what we can do in a Irish context. From alternative energy, greenhouse gas emissions, government lip-service, the cycle-to-work scheme, biodiversity and farmer’s markets, and the importance of local, seasonal foods, Going Green offers expert advice and information on them all.
As the former award-winning Environment Correspondent of the Irish Independent, Tony O’Brien’s experience of environmental issues is broad: he has inspected waste incinerators in Copenhagen, talked with Norwegian whale fishermen above the Arctic circle, visited the controversial Sellafield nuclear plant and rode the trams in Lyon and Manchester before the arrival of Dublin’s Luas. He has reported on all of the major environment-related issues including transport, planning, wind energy, nuclear power, local government, waste and recycling. He now runs his own PR consultancy – Tony O’Brien Communications (www.tonyobrien.ie)
