Terry Hall: “Forever J” (Anxious Records)

I don’t know what Terry Hall’s been doing lately but whatever it is, he should keep it up. ‘Forever J’ is a remarkably consummate pop song. Okay, it might be a little too ‘heavenly’ here and there but the seductive power of Hall’s singing and the way in which he and the melody never strain to overload the song with high-blown meaning enables ‘Forever J’ to convey a confessional sincerity and authenticity that is devoid of angst and as fresh as a spring breeze. Quite brilliant, really.
