Ezra William's upcoming album Supernumeraries will be released 16th June.
Cork singer-songwriter Ezra Williams has shared a mesmeric new single, 'Skin', a week before the release of their eagerly anticipated album Supernumeraries.
‘Skin’ will open Supernumeraries with a hypnotic, almost hymnal vocal, as Ezra sings the album’s piercing opening line, “I’ve never felt this type of cold,” over minimal acoustic guitar.
The poignant track steadily gathers pace and builds into a full band arrangement, setting the tone for the rest of the album, which sees Ezra explore bolder and more expansive sounds than ever before. The single is accompanied by an intense, gut-wrenching video, inspired by a vivid image that came to Ezra while writing the track.
The Cork songwriter is blessed with incredible honesty, with their emphatic word-play drawn from their own life. They offer an often overlooked take on emotional relationships through the lens of a young person who is both gender non-binary and on the Autism spectrum.
Ezra's music speaks to those who don’t often see themselves reflected in media, and moves the needle on what it means to write a love song. Their tender, self-examining bedroom pop recalls Soccer Mommy or Indigo De Souza, with a heavy Fiona Apple influence.
Ezra's upcoming album promises to be something special, case in point the singer's latest single ‘Skin’. Fuelled by a quiet urgency, Ezra's soft vocals and tender melodic stretches touching on love and loss are sure to melt the hearts of even the coldest of listeners.
“This song is about trying to start dating again after heartbreak, the comparing of new people to past and accidentally falling back into bad habits from previous relationships," Ezra said, speaking of the new track. "Knowing you’re not being treated properly but not caring because you can’t handle being alone.”
