Spiritualized to play Acoustic Mainlines show in Dublin
Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 am.
British space rock band Spiritualized have announced that they will play an Acoustic Mainlines show at Dublin's National Concert Hall on March 31, 2027.
This will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the group's first-ever acoustic performances.
The idea for the original shows was created around the time of the making of their Songs In A&E album, and after frontman Jason Pierce - aka J Spaceman - had survived a serious illness. They then grew out of an appearance at a Daniel Johnston show at the Barbican in London, where Spaceman and guitarist Tony Doggen Foster performed covers of Johnston's 'Devil Town', 'Funeral Home' and 'True Love Will Find You In The End'.
"I was under weight and battered and this was a gentle way of getting back on stage," Spaceman later recalled. "It wasn't my show for a start, and it was small, and it was beautiful.
"Originally, it was just going to be the two of us, but we ended up getting the strings and the choir and because it worked so well, it led to other things."
The Acoustic Mainlines shows that followed featured songs from across Spaceman's other band, Spacemen 3, and Spiritualized catalogues - as well as various cover versions - in a stripped-back setup. On all dates, Spaceman and Foster will be joined live by a string quartet and gospel singers.
The Dublin show will start off the run, followed by a special performance for their label Bella Union's 30th anniversary, at London's Union Chapel. They will then go on to play in Bristol, Brighton, Gateshead, Edinburgh and Manchester.
The last time Spiritualized performed in Ireland was in March of last year at Dublin's National Stadium as part of the 30th anniversary tour for their second studio album, Pure Phase.
Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 am here.
