MONOBOX: EP (M-Plant) / THE PROTEIN VALVE: EP (M-Plant)
Although Robert Hood may not be flavour of the month around these parts for his unprofessional no-show at Alien recently, there is no denying the quality of his M-Plant stamp. Neither of these records give any clue as to the identity of their creators, yet both promote the Hood/M-Plant sound. Monobox favour a mid-tempo minimal approach, quietly seducing the listener with chiming bells and brittle hi-hats. Protein Valve’s EP contains six tracks that are all directed at the dancefloor, but are still full of intricate arrangements and sounds. On the strength of these two obscure releases the campaign to forgive Hood has started. (RB)
