If ever a record required a picture of a man smoking on the front cover, then it’s ‘Donkey Ride (Straight To Hell)’.

Not so much sampling from, more mating with, the riff from Willie Dixon’s ‘Wang Dang Doodle’, this is a sleazy, bluesy tune of the highest order. Swamped in soul vocals and slightly reminiscent of The The at their most twisted, it’s not only the most original record this fortnight but also the best by a country (and western) mile.
