After long hours of deliberation, one man emerged triumphant in our search for Ireland’s freshest talent; Aghagallon singer-songwriter Ciaran Lavery graces the cover of the new Hot Press
A few months ago, we began sorting through the mountains of entries we received for the third renewal of the Big Break, in association with ALCATEL ONETOUCH.
The standard – and variety – of entries was of little surprise, given the rude health of Irish music, and it was no easy task to whittle them down to a shortlist of 35. Then, of course, you helped us by narrowing things down to the Super Six; Amazing Apples, Chris Haze, Hvmmingbyrd, The Klares and VOXX all caught your ear, but one man stood out from the crowd; Aghagallon singer-songwriter Ciaran Lavery.
The hard-gigging performer has already produced stunning tracks such as ‘Shame’ and ‘Left For America’ – clocking up a startling 14 million Spotify plays in the process – as well as teaming with electro enthusiast Ryan Vail on recent EP Sea Legs, hailed as one of the best releases on Irish shores so far this year.
Now, the flame-haired musician can be found where we’re confident he’ll soon appear again; on the special flip cover of Hot Press. Inside, he tells Craig Fitzpatrick about his musical influences, his love of peace and quiet, and efforts to avoid being pigeon-holed.
As well as appearing on the flip cover of our latest issue, Ciaran will perform at the Hot Press Alcatel Onetouch BIG BREAK LIVE event, which will take place in Dublin, on Wednesday, June 10, featuring a special appearance by the chart topping HamsandwicH. In addition Ciaran gets his hands on an ALCATEL ONETOUCH Idol 3 – the perfect accessory for any musician!
A worthy winner, Ciaran Lavery is a performer with whom you should become familiar; start by picking up the new issue of Hot Press, on sale tomorrow!
