Chunky Planet in Punk Poetry Mash-ups
Cork’s Chunky Planet will kick off their live activities for 2010 with a series of punk-poetry mash-ups with Wasps vs Humans for select dates in February and March, but, they warn, “the show is not recommended for the easily offended”.
A husband and wife collaboration, Chunky Planet’s E.P Walking In My Shoes was selected by Jackie Hayden as his pick of the fortnight in his First Cuts column in Hot Press back in October and subsequently earned national airplay and rave reviews. Their alternative indie/folk sound is based on no recipe for nostalgic love songs. Instead they bring a raw edge to their music.
The man behind Wasps vs Humans has written plays for theatre, including a UK national tour taking in the Brighton International Arts Festival. Musically he released an LP and single with the UK-based avant-garde band 4,000,000 Telephones, and toured Germany.
“Chunky Planet make it work because they think and play outside the box”
(Jackie Hayden, Hot Press) October 2009.
