The hotly tipped young Wicklow band are breaking new ground this week, recording with the man who midwifed The Fray's most successful album
Hot young Irish contenders Children of the Son have made a huge leap forward this week, flying out to Los Angeles to record with producer Warren Huart – the man responsible for the multi-million selling success of The Fray.
The band will be recording six tracks, with a view to the imminent release of an EP. Already, a number of US record companies are closing in on the band, with a major deal in mind – suggesting that they are the Irish act most likely to break out out of the traps early in 2014.
They were named at the start of the year by Hot Press as 'Ones To Watch in 2013', and they have more than justified that billing since, releasing one of the Irish singles of the year in 'Colourblind'. They played the Salty Dog Stage at Electric Picnic, who picked them as their Legacy Act – that is the one with the potential to go on to headline status in the future.
The word from LA is that work has been going extremely well. The band have been doing pre-records in Harmony Studios, where Adele recorded 'Someone Like You'.
"This real band of brothers brings back honest, raw, hard hitting passion," Warren Huart told Hot Press from Los Angeles, following their initial sessions. "That's something which has been sorely missed in this digital age. Think John Lennon meets Muse with a heathy dose of virtuosity – and flair that only the Irish can do."
Lead guitarist Max, the eldest of the three Mathews brothers, who are the driving force behind Children of the Son, reflected on the magical feeling of recording in one of the great music cities.

'It's amazing walking in the footsteps of our heroes," he said. "When you walk down Sunset Strip where Slash probably bought his guitar 30 years ago, or sit down and play songs you've written on the piano that Adele recorded 'Someone Like You' on, there's an incredible sense of wonder, at the possibility of the dreams that can be realised here. Hollywood is a city of dreams."
The band have been assisted by renowned photographer Robert Knight, who is a keen supporter of the band. They are also the subject of a documentary being shot by TV producer and director, Graeme Wells, who has travelled to LA with the band.
