Fontaines D.C. play last ever BBC session at legendary Maida Vale Studios

Fontaines D.C are officially the last artists to ever record at the world-renowned Maida Vale Studios.

The band played for the BBC 6 Music sessions with Steve Lamacq on August 3. This is the band's first appearance back in the spotlight, following the death of their manager Trevor Dietz.

The session opened with Lamacq introducing the band, as 'Favourite' began playing in the background. They then jumped straight into 'It's Amazing to be Young', showcasing two popular songs from the their most recent album Romance.

'Big Shot' from their 2022 album Skinty Fia was next. Following that, they went back through the archives and played 'Roy's Tune', from the band's debut album Dogrel.

The session finished with 'Bug' and a message from frontman Grian Chatten, “how’s it going? We’re Fontaines DC. This is the last ever Maida Vale session. Thanks for the memories.”

Initially opened as the Maida Vale Roller Skating Palace and Club, the BBC turned it into a studio space for their symphony orchestra in the 1930s

During WW2, the studio became a temporary standby zone for the BBC radio news.

In 2023, Maida Vale Studios was sold to a group led by Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer. Zimmer plans to turn the studio into a 'world leading' film and music centre.

Fontaines D.C. are set to headline on Sunday at Electric Picnic. Electric Picnic will be held on August 28-30 in Stradbally, Co. Laois.
