Chieftains nominated for Grammies
Two nominations for the trad supergroup while Enya ups her Grammy ante with one nomintation, bringing her now total to seven
The Chieftains' year has got off to the sprightliest of starts with the band receiving two nominations for the 45th Grammy Awards, which take place in New York's Madison Square Garden on February 25.
The group are up for 'Best Contemporary Folk Album' with Down The Old Plank Road (the other nominees are Johnny Cash, Steve Earle, Patty Griffin, Johnny Cash & Nickel Creek), and 'Country Instrumental Performance' with their and Earl Scruggs' 'Sally Goodin' (the competition there comes from Berin Strait, Dixie Chicks, Bela Fleck and Nickel Creek).
There's further Irish interest in the 'Best Rock Performance' category, with the version of 'Walk On' that U2 performed at the America: A Tribute To Heroes concert slugging it out with Aerosmith, Creed, Coldplay, Chad Kroeger and 3 Doors Down.
Last but by no means least, Eyna's contribution to The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Rings, 'May It Be', is up for 'Best Song Written For A Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media'. Her and co-writers Nicky and Roma Ryan will be hoping to see off Chad Kroeger (Spider-Man), Randy Newman (Monsters, Inc), Erykah Badu (Brown Sugar) and Paul McCartney (Vanilla Sky).
Enya has now received a total of seven Grammy nominations, winning three awards.
