The very term singer/songwriter is enough to make my back bristle but Jesse Malin bristled me in a way that is entirely lovely. Ryan Adams’ protégé, he won’t wrap around your heart and tug like Bright Eyes would, but he has a really interesting voice that is reminiscent of early Van Morrison. He writes lyrical poetry in an unaffected genuine way that is expressed best by its understated production. An enchanting promise of things to come.
