Bandit Country
BP Fallon & The Bandits have begun their Pledge Music campaign. The legendary frontman exclusively tells Hot Press about his new musical venture and what's in store for 2013...
We start with Clem Burke (drums) and Nigel Harrison (bass guitar). Fuck. The classic Blondie Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame rhythm section re-united. Can you imagine these guys playing behind you? And Aaron Lee Tasjan on guitar whose vibe goes from Jimmy-Page-Meets-JAMC to being one of Hank William’s Drifting Cowboys and he’s, what, 25? And BP whoeverIam Fallon, I’m the singer and I write the lyrics and us Bandits, we write the tunes together. What rhymes with bugle?
You’re looking out into the audience and you’re singing and there’s Eric Burdon –Animal god to rock’n’roll Buddha via Timothy Leary – and he’s bopping and grinning and you go ‘Fuck me!’ And it’s not only older guys like Eric Burdon getting it – it’s Cara Delevingne [the 20 year-old English supermodel who has just won Model Of The Year 2012 at the British Fashion Awards and appeared in the Victoria's Secret TV Special] jumping on a plane from London to Austin to sing backing vocals with us at a gig. Why? We met at a Kills show in New York when I was supporting them and I asked her. Cara Bandette über girl.
I sometimes think my life is ridiculous, this kind of Cara stuff or Lenny Kaye from Patti Smith playing guitar with us live a bunch of times or Scott Asheton from The Stooges and Sean Lennon playing drums with us if Clem’s off Blondieing.
Our album release, we’re kicking off with a campaign on PledgeMusic.com with amazing additional items for sale as well as the album – Bob Gruen is on board with signed limited-edition prints of Jimmy Page and yours truly on Zeppelin’s private plane Starship over America in 1973 plus Bob Gruen prints of The Bandits very first gig in 2010.
And we’ve some of my own photography, never sold to the public before – Keith’n’Ronnie, Johnny Thunders, Iggy, J Page, Alison Mosshart’n’Bobby Gillespie… to a gig in your house by the band to A Cup Of Tea With BP Fallon (cheap; New York or Dublin/London)… to a download of Lenny Kaye playing with us at Electric Picnic… to the demo of I Believe In Elvis Presley from which Jack White learned the song when he produced and played guitar on me singing it, the flash that kicked off this whole boogaloo…
Downloadable also – BPF talking to Johnny Thunders in 1984 (15 mins) and Quentin Crisp talking to BPF in New York in 1991 (40 mins).
John Paul Jones has given us his very rare instrumental track 'Sound City', produced by him in Dublin in 1964 – JPJ (all instruments) except Ian McGarry (drums) and BPF (finger cymbals). My recording debut a million years ago!
This debut BP Fallon & The Bandits album, we’ve made it ourselves, Aaron, Nigel, Clem and I, recorded it at magical Red Horse Ranch Studio in Austin, Texas. The Pledge Music campaign pays for mastering the album and making up the CDs and LPs – yes, we’ve got vinyl for you too – as well as including digital downloads.
And all the rare collectors’ stuff! Like – A Drum Lesson With Clem Burke - limited edition of one, with one of the greatest rock’n’roll drummers ever! C’mon, this is wild. Right now, it’s you and us. You might even fall in love with the renegade spirit of rock’n’roll all over again.
BP Fallon & The Bandits Pledge Music campaign began Tuesday Dec 18
‘10 Days To Christmas’ includes immediate download of the lead single 'Does Anyone Care What Anyone Says In Rock’n’Roll' (unmastered – raw & rocking for you right now) for minimum Pledge of $10, which gets you the mastered CD inc 16-page PDF booklet when the album is released in January. Any queries or to say hello, email [email protected]
With a bow and a smile, the lead singer x
