Sometimes you just have to look towards the voice of experience. Guided By Voices have been doing their thing for aeons now but ‘Back To The Lake’ is as fresh and exciting as if they were straight out of the blocks. It’ll do nothing to push them out of the ghetto marked ‘slightly odd cult American guitar bands’ but you don’t expect that it will bother them one jot. And if they’re happy with that, then who are we to argue?
