The music video for Christian Wethered's 'La Madeleine' an official selection at the Disappear Here Film Festival

Darn Skippy Productions' music video for Christian Wethered's song 'La Madeleine' will be honoured at the 2023 Disappear Here Film Festival in Ballyliffin, Co. Donegal this weekend.

The music video was written, directed, filmed and edited by the award-winning filmmaker Richard Lennon, and performance and choreography for the video was by Roseanne Lynch.

In the video, a ‟lonely woman makes an unlikely connection with a silent cinema film reel.” Inspired by the silent film era of the early 20th century, in particular German Expressionism of the 1920s, Lennon imbued elements of that style of filmmaking throughout.

Wethered has rapidly cemented himself as one of Ireland's more enthralling folk acts, since his debut release, 'Mr Medicine Man', in 2020. Taking influence from the likes of Laura Marling, Iron and Wine and Nick Cave, he uses visceral poetry and raw, emphatic instrumentation to address complex themes.

The music video has gained critical acclaim since its original release last year, specially premiered in partnership with Hot Press. It previously was awarded the "Best Music Video Award" at the 2022 Dublin International Short Film and Music Festival and was included as an Official Selection at the 2022 Prague Music Video Awards.

Lennon spoke about how honoured he was to be able to make such a video. "I really couldn't be happier with what came of this project. The strengths of Christian's amazing song and Roseanne's wonderful performance and choreography seemed to meld so well with my narrative and visual concept." He continued, "I only hope the three of us can collaborate on another production again soon."
