Netflix releases teaser trailer for Remarkably Bright Creatures
The film will premiere on Friday, May 8.
Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Remarkably Bright Creatures, a film based on Shelby Van Pelt's novel of the same name.
The film will star Oscar winner Sally Field as Tova, a widowed aquarium worker who forms an unlikely friendship with Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus voiced by Alfred Molina. Marcellus serves as the film's wily and cantankerous narrator.
In a statement, Van Pelt wrote that she conceived of Marcellus's character by "watching videos of naughty octopuses that were escaping from their enclosures, or just getting up to antics in aquariums."
"I remember thinking that would be such a fun voice to write, such a fun character to harness."
Lewis Pullman, Colm Meaney, and Joan Chen round out the cast of the film.
Remarkably Bright Creatures is directed by Olivia Newman, with a script co-written by Newman and John Whittington.
The novel, published in 2022, has been a runaway hit, having spent over 64 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. It is Van Pelt's first novel.
