Netflix announces return of Wednesday for third season
The upcoming second season was filmed in counties Wicklow, Dublin, and Offaly
Netflix has announced the return of the hit show Wednesday—a series inspired by the '90s horror comedy The Addams Family—for a third season.
The news comes just weeks shy of the release of season two, which will debut in two parts on August 6 and September 3.
After the show’s initial release in 2022, it quickly became Netflix’s most popular English-language series, with 252.1 million views in 91 days.
For the second season, creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar decided on Ireland as a filming location.
Shot in multiple locations around the counties of Dublin, Wicklow, and Offaly, the showrunners described the Irish backdrop for the mystery series as "truly magical."
"It adds a sense of timeless beauty, wonder, and epic spectacle to the world of Wednesday," they explained.
"It’s no coincidence that Dracula author Bram Stoker hailed from Dublin, and his stories were inspired by the stories of Irish folklore."
The specific filming locations include Powerscourt Demesne in Enniskerry, which previously served as a set for Vikings and Disenchanted, and the gothic Charleville Castle in County Offaly.
Dublin's Deansgrange Cemetery is also featured on the show.
In season two, Jenna Ortega's character Wednesday Addams will return to the Gothic corridors of Nevermore Academy, where she is thrust into another year of "delightfully dark and hilarious mayhem".
Details on the freshly announced third season, including casting and production, will be shared at a later time.
