Barry Keoghan’s Bring Them Down wins Best Picture at Texas film festival
Other Fantastic Fest festival winners include Karan Kandhari’s debut feature Sister Midnight and Chainsaws Were Singing.
Barry Keoghan’s thriller Bring Them Down has won Best Picture in the main competition at the Texas film festival Fantastic Fest.
The dark Irish drama, which also stars Christopher Abbott, Colm Meany, Nora-Jane Noone and more, is described in the official program as “beautifully crafted and assured character piece.”
The film is co-produced by the Dublin-based company Tailored Films. Speaking of the win, co-founder Ruth Treacy told RTÉ Entertainment: "We are over the moon with this win. It's amazing to see Irish cinema, particularly a film with a lot of Irish language in it, celebrated on such a big stage."
Marking writer-director Christopher Andrews’ debut feature, the film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, and is billed as "a suspenseful thriller that observes the escalating tensions of two farming families in the west of Ireland, whose actions have increasingly devastating consequences".
It is produced in association with Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán, and RTÉ, among others.
No release date for Bring Them Down has been announced yet.
