A selection of some of the country's top live music venues.
After a refurbishment in the late ’90s, Bundoran bar Chasin’ Bull has gone on to establish itself as a pre-eminent live venue.
“The culture in Bundoran has always been one of appreciation for live music,” says Chasin’ Bull events manager Kevin Cassidy.
“So the whole town’s taken to Chasin’ Bull in a big way. We’ve always strived to be a music venue and we always want to push original music.”
A notable development found the bar teaming up with Sea Sessions for a special Live & Unsigned competition, which has seen local talent in Donegal fight it out for a spot on the bill. In January of this year, live battles commenced again, making for some fiery shows.
In addition, the bar has gained appreciation from an array of heavy-hitters, with Gavin James a noted fan. The bar also gained national attention when it received Hot Press’ 2019 Venue of the Year pictured above).

“That’s fantastic for us,” says Cassidy. “I’ve been in charge of doing the booking for two years. In the first year we were nominated for an IMRO Award, and now we’ve won for a Hot Press Award. It’s a fantastic achievement and we’re really proud of how far we’ve come.”
