An album of teenage Irish bands has stormed into the number 13 slot in the Irish compilation album charts.
Pesky Kids, the CD featuring the cream of this year’s Irish Youth Music Awards, is the first Irish album of its kind to go straight in to the top twenty in its first week of release.
“It’s hard to believe really and hasn’t sunk in, the band are really over the moon. It’s great news for the future of the Irish Youth Music Awards too” said Daniel Donnelly (17) of the Monaghan Band, MGRB, the recipients of this year’s award and who feature prominently on the CD.
The CD is a double, with one CD dedicated to Monaghan bands, with three tracks from MGRB and Fixed Penalty, and two from Laura and Seb. The second CD comprises tracks from teenage bands from around the country, including Bitter Red from Donegal and Seven Fables from Wexford.

The Irish Youth Music Awards are run by Youth Work Ireland and Garageland, and the winners are chosen by a panel including Willie Kavanagh, boss of EMI Records, and Jackie Hayden of Hot Press. They provide a space for hundreds of young bands from all around Ireland to rehearse, perform and record in their own community culminating in the annual awards ceremony which took place this year in April at The Village in Dublin.
The CD was launched officially at the recent Hot Press Music Show.
