RTE to expand digital radio
RTÉ has confirmed, after 20 months of trials, it intends to have full schedules available for five new digital radio services from Monday, December 1.
Of most interest to Hot Press readers are the three music stations – the dance driven Pulse, rock ‘n’ roll minded 2XM and Chill, which is your only man when it comes to ambient.
Hot Press understands that their output will be a mixture of non-stop music and DJ presented shows.
Completing the RTÉ digital line-up are a sister speech station to Radio 1, Choice, and Junior, which is aimed at two to ten-year-olds.
According to an official statement, RTÉ intends to “roll-out DAB digital radio to 56% of the population over the coming three years. However we will not progress with this roll-out until there is a regulatory framework in place that will allow commercial broadcasters to move to digital radio. This is to ensure that the whole industry moves together for the benefit of the listener.”
