Deerhunter announce High Places as their support for Vicar Street
Newly signed group, High Places have been announced as the support for Deerhunter in Vicar Street in June.
High Places appear to going places. The Brooklyn Duo have been announced as the Deerhunter support for Vicar Street on June 14.
The New Yorkers have only recently been signed to Chicago based Thrill Jockey Records. Their sound is an unusual mish mash that is light, very easy to listen to, and strangely Caribbean. Their fusion sound is inevitable given their choice of instruments- and I use the term ‘instruments’ loosely- bells and bird calls over a wash of ocean waves or mallets hitting mixing bowls over treated guitar and glockenspiel.
The pair, Mary and Rob come from very different musical backgrounds, rob is a punk and hardcore man, whereas Mary studied bassoon performance. The pair say that they have come together now that both have “gravitated toward a DIY compositional style and a love of layers.”
High Places’ first offering is a singles collection “03/07 – 09/07” is due out in July with a full length album due in September.
