Culture Night 2008 goes nationwide
Extra funding has been made available to expand Culture Night 2008 outside of Dublin to include Cork, Limerick and Galway.
Friday, 19th September will be Dublin's third Culture Night. On the evening, artistic and cultural venues in Dublin, including the National Gallery, National Library and National Museum, will extend their opening hours until late in the evening. In 2007, more than 80,000 people took part in Dublin’s Culture Night activities.
The Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism, Seamus Brennan, has also provided The Temple Bar Cultural Trust, which co-ordinates the event, with a grant of €45,000 for the Dublin night, and a further €30,000 has been allocated for the initial hosting of Culture Night in Cork, Limerick and Galway. The Trust will provide advice and assistance, through the Local Authorities, for the staging of the events in these cities.
Culture Night 2008 is building on the success of previous years with an increased number of arts, cultural and heritage organisations participating in the event and increased opening hours for a number of venues.
