Big Geraniums reform
Formed in ‘90s London, travelling to Dublin and finally settling in Galway, the Big Geraniums are popping up again, this time in Kilkenny.
Folk-rockers Big Geraniums, who enjoyed international success in the 1990s, return this June 1 for a one-off gig in the marquee at Eddie Murphy’s Pub in Kilkenny.
The band will play their reunion gig as part of the Thomastown Festival.
Big Geranium's first album was released in 1992 and became a hit at home in Ireland, leading to tours in Europe and the States.
The ‘90s saw the band tour with the likes of Van Morrison and The Wailers, but their success was relatively short-lived and they disbanded after several years of gigging.
Bassist Marcus Molloy says this is the first chance the band have had to get together since the split, but they expect all to go well considering their previous live experience.
“We’ve been loosely planning this for years, but with the band members scattered to all four corners of the globe, it didn’t seem likely to happen.
"Amazingly, we checked our respective diaries and realised that we’d all finally be in Ireland next month. Jonas is flying in from New York, Laura’s coming from London, Seanin from Berlin, Neil from Phuket and so on.
"We’re not gonna have much time to rehearse, but we played a couple of thousand gigs together in the ‘90s, so we’re pretty sure it’ll come together on the night!”
The gig starts at 6.30pm with support from The Shed and The Babbage Engine.
