Musicians on the General Election: Kíla's Rossa Ó Snodaigh – "The left has never been given a chance in Ireland"

I’ll be voting in the same way I always have – anything but Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.

The person in power at the moment said he represented the people who wake up early in the morning. Basically, that means that he doesn’t represent anyone else. He doesn’t represent those who don’t work, or those who might be sick. We have homelessness at an all time high, and these, obviously, are people who don’t wake up early in the morning. Thanks to lack of investment, the shit has really hit the fan, and they’re unwilling or incapable of doing anything about it.

The idea of letting the market decide, and not intervening, is causing what I call the ‘Celtic Hyena’. When a tiger leaves a carcass, the hyenas come in to finish it off. That’s the kind of economy we have at the moment.

All the issues we’ve ever had in this country have been thanks to Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, because they’ve been in power all along. RTÉ having this debate on February 4th is shocking. They’ve basically pre-determined the outcome four days before an election – asking the two parties who’ve been in control to have it out with each other. It’s akin to Fox News having a debate between Trump and his running mate. It’s outrageous.

I’d hate Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael to get in. I’d love if the country actually voted for the people that will follow the policies they always argue about. It’s very simple – intelligent investment. The left has never been given a chance in Ireland. It’s constantly been the lower party to a centre-right government. The left can be as strong as the voters will make it – and it would be an incredible thanks to Connolly for helping us to create our own country.
