Zhivago Records goes into liquidation
It's a major blow for the Galway music scene.
The extremely sad news from Galway is that Zhivago Records have gone in to voluntary liquidation with the loss of 15 jobs. They’re blaming the increase in downloads for their demise.
A mainstay of the local music scene for four decades, Zhivago gave early breaks to the likes of The Stunning, Toasted Heretic and The Saw Doctors who then all went on to national success.
In addition to their retail activities, Zhivago also staged regular instores and doubled up as a club house for the city’s muso fraternity.
The only silver lining is that their Galway Shopping Centre outlet will continue to trade under a different name.
