WATCH: Trailer for Andre 3000's Jimi Hendrix biopic

The first trailer for Jimi: All Is By My Side has been revealed. The film stars outkast's Andre 3000 as Hendrix and is scripted and directed by John Ridley, who served as a screenwriter for 12 Years A Slave. The film covers Hendrix's time in London, the formation of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and his performance at California's Monterey Pop Festival, which made him a star in the US.

As Hendrix's estate prevented any of Hendrix's original work to appear in the film, 3000 will performing covers that Hendrix performed during this period, including songs by The Beatles and Muddy Waters. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2013. No Irish release date has been announced.
