Surprise YouTube hit Jamie Lawson plays tonight
Jamie Lawson, a Plymouth native, could hardly have expected his mainstream breakthrough to come from one Ian Dempsey, but that's exactly what happened after the Today FM DJ played his Youtube video of a new song 'Wasn't Expecting That' on air on January 13 and now the English singer-songwriter arrives in Dublin riding a wave of publicity. Lawson performed live on Dempsey's show this morning and will play The Late Late Show tomorrow night. In addition, Lawson's gig has now been bumped up to the Whelan's main stage, no mean feat after just two weeks, and the YouTube video has now reached 30,000 views with the song also having been just recorded as a single for immediate release.
Compared to Leonard Cohen and Damien Rice, Lawson released a highly acclaimed album The Pull Of The Moon last year.
Tickets are a bargain at €5 and are available at the door, but arrive early as they are expected to sell fast. The gig starts at 8pm tonight.
