Van Morrison is to be honoured with a prestigious accolade ahead of the Oscars next year.
The Belfast-born music legend is said to be one of three Irish stars who will be celebrated at the Oscar Wilde: Honouring Irish Writing in Film party in February, for his contribution to over 50 films.
While he has been involved with blockbusters including Bridget Jones's Diary', 'Thelma & Louise', and 'As Good As It Gets, his most recent project is Martin Scorsese’s soon-to-be-released The Departed. The film - which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg and Martin Sheen - features Van Morrison & The Band performing the Pink Floyd classic ‘Comfortably Numb’.
This is the second year of the Oscar Wilde awards, with Neil Jordan, Jim Sheridan and David Holmes receiving the honour last year.
The ceremony is organised by the US-Ireland Alliance.
