It's the end of a glorious era for Dublin clubbers
Sad news from Dublin's Northside with the Twisted Pepper set to close this Saturday. Following extensive renovations the premises will re-open in October but with, it seems, a different music and entertainment policy.
Lurking with considerable intent on Middle Abbey Street, it's played host over the past eight years to some amazing club nights and live performances from the likes of Neneh Cherry, Action Bronson and Modeselektor.
Throwing a 'Goodbye Pepper' party there on August 13 are the Welcome crew who say: "It’s undeniable that it’s been one of the most significant venues for underground music in Dublin since it opened its doors in 2008 and we’re going to give it the send off it deserves at its last ever Thursday night party.
"It’s been an honour to be a part of its final year and we want to invite you all to join us in saying goodbye and commemorate the end of an era."
There's been lots of social media response with James Wolf tweeting: "I've loads of great memories of doing shows there and, of course, the rave cave"; "Properly gutted about the Twisted Pepper. My first experience of a proper DJ was Maya Jane Coles in there," reminisces Heather Keane: Sails weighs in with "super bummed to hear about Twisted Pepper closing. Loads of lovely memories from the last few years", and "So many good times, too many chats and memories to count; I'll miss it," says Emer Nic Dhiarmada.
