Wolf Alice to play surprise gigs in Kilkenny, Cork and Limerick next week
The gigs coincide with the release of the band's highly anticipated new single, 'Bloom Baby Bloom'
Wolf Alice are set to play three surprise shows in Ireland next week, to coincide with their long-awaited comeback – with gigs taking place in Set Theatre, Kilkenny (May 19); Cyprus Avenue, Cork (May 20); and Dolan's Warehouse in Limerick (May 21).
The shows will follow the release of the Mercury Prize-winning band's new single 'Bloom Baby Bloom' (out this Friday).
Wolf Alice released their latest album, Blue Weekend, in 2021, and have kept a low-profile since. This year, however, they've been confirmed for upcoming appearances at Glastonbury, as well as BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend.
Blue Weekend scored a nine-star review in Hot Press upon its release, and was also named our International Album of the Year. Around the time, singer Ellie Rowsell spoke to Hot Press about being influenced by Irish music – having grown up playing trad in North London.
"I feel like I incorporate it in ways that are not so obvious, just because I grew up playing it," she reflected. "A lot of trad music you learn by ear, and that gives you an ear for melody. So I think that subconsciously works its way into my music. I haven't yet put a penny whistle on an album or anything... I would like to! But I think I'll wait until it feels like it complements it."
