Twelve Irish Albums in Indie Top 20
Hot Press wonders: is this a record?
A total of twelve Irish albums feature in the current Irish Indie Top 20 album charts. While Tommy Fleming loses the No.1 spot – overtaken by Adele's 21, which is now 101 weeks in the charts – this may well be the biggest ever representation of Irish music in the indie hit parade here.
"You'd need to look at last week's chart to check if any Irish records have fallen out," a Hot Press insider observed, "but there is one newcomer this week so we'll have to do an extra bit of homework and report back! Either way, it is an impressive performance, confirming that the local market is still a very important one."
Tommy Fleming still leads the charge with Begin, at No.2. But The Coronas (pictured) are the dominant force, with their current album Closer To You at No.4 being followed by their earlier records Tony Was An Ex Con and Heroes or Ghosts, at No.s 12 and 13 respectively.
The Original Rudeboys This Life drops to No.3, with Hot Press' album of the year An Awesome Wave by Alt-j rising to No.5 on the back of that success. Other notable performers include Julie Feeney's acclaimed Clocks, up three places to No.17, with Finbar Furey's Colours sneaking in at No.20.
