Primavera Sound festival cancels headline performances due to "adverse weather conditions"
Opening day was severely disrupted by storms leading organisers to cancel performances on safety grounds.
Heavy downpours of rain interrupted the first day of Primavera Sound in Parc de Fòrum, Barcelona, yesterday.
None of the scheduled headliners, Massive Attack, Doja Cat and Bad Gyal, were able to perform; sets from Alex G and Mac DeMarco were cancelled as well.
The rainfall particularly affected the two main stage areas, where concerts were suspended as early as 9 pm.
"Unfortunately, adverse weather and technical conditions have made it impossible for the performances by Massive Attack, Doja Cat and Bad Gyal on the Estrella Damm and Revolut stages to take place due to safety reasons", Primavera Sound announced on Instagram. "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding."
Following the announcement, Doja Cat told fans on social media she was "devastated" that she couldn't perform, but reassured them we should return, promising: "I'll be back."
"Hey everyone, the weather has been terrible all day, the stages are completely wrecked, it's impossible for us to perform," explained Barcelona native Bag Gyal. "I was really looking forward to ending my tour in my hometown, but it's not going to be possible. I'm so sorry."
The festival is set to continue until June 7, with forecasts predicting more settled conditions for the remainder of the festival.
Performances from headliners The Cure, Addison Rae and Skrillex are scheduled to take place today.
