Mounfield's death comes two years after the death of his wife, Imelda, who was diagnosed with stage four cancer in November 2020.

We’re all still shocked about our dear brother Mani’s passing. I still can’t believe it. For a little fella, he had a big personality, like his bass sound. A true one-off.

New Order paid tribute on X, writing, "We are really sorry and shocked to hear of the passing of Mani. He was a great guy, good fun and a father to two boys. Long may he live in the hearts and minds of all his family, friends and fans."
Emily Eavis, co-organiser of Glastonbury Festival among other music events, took to Instagram to express how "gutted" she felt at the news.
"I loved him - he was a true one off," Eavis said.
"I’ve known him since I was a teenager, when he turned up for Pilton Party in 1995 to play a surprise gig with the Stone Roses and shared some amazing times with him. I’ll never forget him taking me under his wing when, in Japan a few years later, and without a lift back to the airport, he took me on the Primal Scream tour bus from Fuji Festival to Tokyo.
"He was always up for a big chat, a joke or hug, and he was such a joy to watch on stage. He didn’t try to be cool, he was just himself always and I think that’s one of the many reasons he was so loved. For me personally he was very supportive over the years, cheering me on and always ready with a laugh and a smile, even in tough times."
