Kavinsky, French DJ behind 'Nightcall', dies aged 50

French DJ and producer Kavinsky has died at the age of 50. The musician, whose real name was Vincent Belorgey, was found dead at his home in Paris on Tuesday evening, according to Reuters.

The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the cause of death, adding that first responders found no suspicious circumstances at the scene.

Kavinsky rose to international prominence with his 2010 single 'Nightcall', which gained widespread recognition after featuring in Nicolas Winding Refn's 2011 film Drive, starring Ryan Gosling. More recently, he performed the track alongside Belgian singer Angèle during the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, introducing his music to a new global audience.

Emerging from France's electronic music scene in the mid-2000s, Kavinsky became known for his cinematic synthwave sound, blending retro 1980s aesthetics with contemporary electronic production. His debut album, OutRun, arrived in 2013, followed by Reborn in 2022, while his music earned acclaim for its nostalgic, filmic atmosphere and influence on the synthwave genre.

Tributes have begun to pour in following the news of his death such as French President Emmanuel Macron describing Kavinsky on a Facebook post as "a source of French pride forever".
