Victoria Mary Clarke pays tribute to Shane MacGowan's father Maurice
"A towering intellect and a multi-talented creative genius."
Victoria Mary Clarke paid tribute to Shane MacGowan's father, Maurice, today via Instagram.
Writing in a statement she said, "when I met Maurice I began to understand that Shane had a role model not just for his literary passion but for his attitude to life. He was intrinsically secure and lived his life entirely on his own terms with the total freedom to be and express himself exactly as he was, without edits or filters just like his father always did."
Clarke married Shane MacGowan in 2018, after the couple had been dating for 32 years. She finished her statement thanking her father-in-law, "god bless Maurice Mac Gowan and I thank him for his most precious gift to me."

Maurice died on Monday August 3 at University Hospital Limerick, following a short period of illness. His death comes almost three years after the death of Pogues frontman and his son, Shane.
His daughter Siobhan also made a statement via Instagram, "was the beacon in the room, the heart of the party" and that "he never lost his childlike spirit."
A funeral service will be held for Maurice at Shannon Crematorium in Co. Clare on Saturday.
Mourners are invited to make donations to St Vincent De Paul in lieu of flowers.
