The publicity blurb for ‘Toxic’ heralds the track as “classic, commercial Britney, but with a darker, more dance-oriented edge”. A more accurate way of describing it would be as a hopelessly pedestrian exercise in mind-numbingly-tedious pop, but I guess the PR people have got to earn a buck somehow. With her career stagnating and the galling sight of her much-more talented former boyfriend’s globe-conquering exploits to contend with, it can surely only be a matter of time before Britters follows in Janet’s footsteps and flashes her tits for some cheap publicity. Wait, she’s already done that…
