Kingfishr to release track from 20th Century Paddy - The Songs of Shane MacGowan this Friday

Kingfishr have announced that their single 'The Sunnyside of the Street' from the upcoming album 20th Century Paddy - The Songs of Shane MacGowan will be released this Friday. The album, created by Irish music legend Shane MacGowan's widow, Victoria Mary Clarke, looks to honour his legacy, with Kingfishr being one of many on a star-studded line-up.

Originally written by MacGowan for The Pogues, 'The Sunnyside of the Street' was chosen by Kingfishr "because of how surprisingly sad the lyrics are when you focus in on them. We thought the song deserved to be shown in a light that reflects that".

This year has been record breaking for indie folk band Kingfishr, as their single 'Killeagh' spent 17 weeks at No.1 on the Irish charts. Their album Halycon also made its debut at No.1. Recently, the band has headlined their first Australia show, sold out multiple UK dates and performed across many major European festivals including Pinkpop and Rock Werchter.

20th Century Paddy - The Songs of Shane MacGowan, set to release November 13 2026, will include tracks from artists such as U2, Bob Geldof, Amble and many more alongside Kingfishr. Over the past few months, other singles from the album have already been released. These include Bruce Springsteen's 'A Rainy Night in Soho', Dropkick Murphys' 'The Body of an American' and Johnny Depp and Imelda May's 'Haunted'.

Honouring MacGowan, the project will see 50% of all artists royalties from the album be donated to the Dublin Simon Community, who provide housing and healthcare for people experiencing homelessness.
