Johnny Depp and Imelda May have shared 'Haunted' from the upcoming Shane MacGowan tribute album. 20th Century Paddy - The Songs of Shane MacGowan, out November 13, features some of the biggest names in Irish and international music.
Following the success of Bruce Springsteen's opening track 'A Rainy Night in Soho', 'Haunted' is the second single released from the album. Originally penned for the Sid and Nancy soundtrack, the song was recorded in 1995 by MacGowan and Sinéad O'Connor.
"There are people you meet in life who carry something timeless in them — a kind of knowing," said Depp.
"Imelda is one of those people. Making music with her has been one of my greatest joys."
"Performing 'Haunted' with Johnny for both of our forever missed friends is filled with huge love, utmost respect and means so very, very much," said May.
"Thanks so much to Sinead's producer and right hand man John Reynolds for recording my vocals using Sinead's microphone," she added.
This collaboration is part of a star-studded lineup of contributors involved in the album, including Hozier, Jessie Buckley, Tom Waits, The Libertines, The Murder Capital, Primal Scream, Amble, Lisa O’Neill, The Pogues themselves, and many more.
The project was put together by MacGowan's widow Victoria Mary Clarke and her manager John Kennedy. Honouring the iconic musician’s legacy, 50% of artist royalties will be donated to Dublin Simon Community to provide housing and healthcare for those experiencing homelessness.
Earlier this month, a first look at the album's tracklist was released. The revealed songs feature the likes of David Gray on 'The Old Main Drag,' Lisa Moorish and Another Day on 'Rain Street,' Madra Salach on 'Turkish Song Of The Damned,' Primal Scream on 'A Pair Of Brown Eyes,' as well as The Jesus and Mary Chain on 'I'll Be Your Handbag.'
