This Is My Happening And It Fucks me Up
National Prayer Breakfast’s decision to abbreviate their moniker to the snappier, more minimal NPB is indicative of a newly streamlined groove machine.
National Prayer Breakfast’s decision to abbreviate their moniker to the snappier, more minimal NPB is indicative of a newly streamlined groove machine. This is My Happening… is not intended as a ‘proper’ follow up to last year’s highly acclaimed The Sociables Prefer Pop Music, but as an eight track mini-album of dirtier, fuzzier pop nuggets.
For those slightly put off by the Brekkie’s in your face contrived wackiness and cool posturings, this is somewhat of a revelation.
‘1000 Helicopters’ growls along with playful menace, underpinned by a superb garage rock bass line and wicked chorus. ‘Loaded’ is a fun-filled ode to the wild times in a style that can only be dubbed pure NPB, while ‘Black Chevy Part One And Two’ revisits the familiar Brekkie terrain of Pixiesque pop.
‘Rock For Cops’ and ‘Evil Things’ close a neat, perfectly formed miniature collection on a suitably high note, complete with buzzing riffs and hummable melodies to keep us all going until the next NPB sonic extravaganza.
