Billy Strings announces new album So Much for Goodbyes
Strings said he's dedicated the new record to his late mother, who died in June 2025.
Billy Strings has announced the release of his new album So Much for Goodbyes for August 28 via Reprise Records.
Accompanying the announcement, Strings released the lead single ‘Burn My Other End’. The track was co-written by American bluegrass musician Paul Hoffman.
The album will be the first record since his mother, Debra Apostal, passed away on June 20, 2025. She passed away in her sleep just hours after his hometown performance at the Charlotte Bluegrass Festival.
“I made this record to honor my mother,” Strings said. “To notice and embrace this very significant period of grief in my life and make art from it. To turn my heartbreak into songs while using my guitar as a coping mechanism, as I always have. It’s always been there for me to lean on through the hard times, and I figure it always will… until it’s my time to say goodbye.”
So Much for Goodbyes was made in collaboration with American record producer, guitarist and songwriter T Bone Burnett. It will also mark his fifth studio album, following his Grammy-winning Highway Prayers in 2024.
Strings, whose real name is William Lee Apostol, is an American guitarist and bluegrass musician. Two of his other albums, Home and Live Vol. 1, have also won the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album in 2021 and 2025, respectively.
As a musician, he has been credited as one of the fastest acoustic guitar players in the world and has earned fans such as John Mayer and Tool's Adam Jones.
