The Rubberbandits on the Marriage Referendum
Voting "Yes" is the ultimate act of Gas Cuntism, they say!
If you've yet to bag yourselves a copy of the special Hot Press Best Of Ireland 2015, you won't have read our rather chortlesome interview with the Rubberbandits.
There were some serious bit, though, like when we asked Blindboy Boatclub what he'd say to people planning to vote "No" in the Marriage Referendum.
"Use some empathy," he proffers. "Have a conversation with a gay person and listen and feel their experiences with being gay all their life. A 'Yes' vote is a simple vote for happiness, that's all it is. Allowing your fellow Irish people to be happy, and to feel that their country considers their love to be legitimate and equal. If you don't want to marry a person of the same sex then don't, but allow others the freedom if that's what they're into."
Most eloquently put. The chaps' new Continental Fistfight show, which also demonstrates an intuitive understanding of LGBT politics, can be caught at Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick (May 23); Everyman Palace, Cork (31) and Set Theatre, Kilkenny (June 20). We've seen it and it's a masterpiece!
