The Rooms gets Rock 'n' Roll treatment
Already a hugely successful novel, Declan Lynch's acclaimed The Rooms is being connected to its rock'n'roll roots in a new stage treatment.
Breaking Out, a new play with music based on Lynch's superb novel, stars the well-known Irish actor Arthur Riordan with music specially written by Niall Toner.
The show has been lined up for a short theatre tour, beginning its run at the Axis Theatre in Ballymun on October 31 and November 1; on Wednesday November 5 there's a one-off performance in Greystones, while Bewley's Cafe Theatre is the destination from Thursday November 20 to Saturday 22. There is a special preview in Axis Theatre on Thursday October 30.
The Rooms is a story of love and friendship, booze and rock ‘n’ roll through thirty years of personal history from the 1970s to the present day. "Breaking Out is essential viewing for anyone who has ever questioned their own relationship with alcohol or struggled with the difficult business of growing up," producer and director Michael Ford told Hot Press.
Breaking Out is described as a "self-contained tragicomedy derived from key aspects of the book" and played out to a vibrant rock and roll soundtrack, composed and performed live by Niall Toner.
